10 Years of A Style Set, One Look at a Time

It’s 2025, which officially marks 10 years of our founder Erin Eagle’s fashion journey. To celebrate, we’ve pulled looks from her account, @inthesejeans—one from each year. From the Tumblr girl aesthetic of 2015 to the elevated minimalism of 2025, Erin reflects on her personal growth and dishes out the deets behind some of her most iconic outfits.

2015: First post! Tell us about the story behind this outfit—and @inthesejeans.

Super exciting day—drove to the beach with my mom for an outfit photoshoot once I officially decided to start my fashion account, @inthesejeans. Those shorts were my absolute go-to. I chose to wear denim in the first post to align with the account name, referring to both my love for denim and fashion running in my “genes” (with my mom being a stylist and influencing my love for it!).

2016: This photo was taken in New York City. It must feel full-circle considering where you are now.

This was taken during a summer program I did with Seventeen magazine. It was a two-week program for high school students to learn about the fashion magazine business, network, meet like-minded people, and get cool experiences around NYC. We got to learn exactly how the editorial process works, learn from trend forecasters, etc. I remember leaving so inspired to live in the city and work in the field one day—so lucky to have made that happen!

2017: The sweater dress era. What a throwback! How would you describe your style then?

I loved the edgy, grunge, Tumblr girl aesthetic at that time. I’ve always gravitated towards darker colors, especially black. I would still wear something similar now, but instead of fishnets, I’d opt for sheer black tights for a more streamlined look.

2018: Love the leopard coat—such a 2018 staple. Any pieces that can instantly elevate an outfit? Ones you can’t live without?

I love a statement piece—like this coat—that can elevate an otherwise simple outfit. At that time, I was obsessed with chokers, but I can’t say the same now. These days, I usually opt for a simple silver chain or a dainty pendant necklace.

I also can’t live without a good black tank (both then and now). I wear one on rotation weekly and layer it with cropped cardigans, statement jackets, leather, denim—absolutely everything. My latest outfit on rotation has been a black fitted tank with barrel jeans and loafers. Although I’ve been trying to avoid super baggy clothing, my rule of thumb is fitted on top and baggy on the bottom for the most flattering look. (And I can’t get over how comfortable barrel jeans are!)

2019: This outfit reminds me of Emma Chamberlain’s signature 2019 style. Who were your fashion muses then, and now?

Love [Emma’s] style! It has evolved so much over the years, and I’ve always been super inspired by her eye—she can make anything look good. (Always loved a chunky boot too. I still have those Dr. Martens!)

When I first started posting, I was inspired by some of the OG fashion influencers, like @josefinehj and @sofiamcoelho. Lately, I’ve been inspired by @kendalldair, @maina, and @isabellasloewe.

2020: There’s a lot to say about 2020. Did the pandemic impact the way you dressed?

Yes, absolutely. I regrettably leaned into micro-trends at that time, like fuzzy bags, tie-dye, and racing jackets. But I also think it gave me the opportunity to experiment and have fun with my style.

RECREATE THE LOOK:

2021: Clean and classic with the set, yet edgy with the jacket. It almost feels like a hint of where you were headed style-wise.

After experimenting with fun trends in 2020, I started to lean back into my personal style with simplicity. A leather jacket has always been (and will always be) a staple piece and a great way to add a little edge to any outfit. As someone who prioritizes comfort and ease, I love a matching set and would definitely still wear this.

2022: Now we’re seeing a transition into more streetwear-inspired outfits, which feels closer to your current style.

I was thrifting a lot of my closet at this time and trying to find my style again. This was my dad’s old jacket—always fun to find treasures in my parents’ closets.

RECREATE THE LOOK:

2023: You attended New York Fashion Week! Break down the look and tell us about your experience.

I’m forever grateful to have experienced NYFW! I found that jacket at the thrift store days before, and it was the exact vibe I was looking for. (The brown leather jacket was especially trendy in 2023.) I also stole the bag from my mom’s closet—another gem from my parents!

I was super inspired by the shows, especially Alexander Wang, Adeam, Christian Cowan, and Collina Strada. I’d love to go to more fashion weeks around the world and report on the trends I see for A Style Set.

2024: You traveled to Australia this year. Any style takeaways from Down Under? Any other vacay spots that inspired you?

This outfit really encapsulates Australian style: clean, minimal, and beachy. I absolutely fell in love with Australia’s culture and fashion. I really leaned into their easy, breezy style, wearing a lot of crisp linen shirts, loose pants, and matching bikini sets. It’s a good reminder that you don’t have to go over the top with your outfits! You can keep it simple, but still look put-together.

It’s very much the opposite of New York City; Australian style is more relaxed and coastal, while NYC style is edgier and more streetwear-focused. I’m also super inspired by Scandi style. I traveled to Copenhagen in 2023 and really fell in love with the mix of effortless simplicity and streetwear.

2025: 10 years later, how would you describe your current style? What advice would you give people trying to find theirs?

I think my style has stayed pretty consistent since I first started posting: simple, with a little edge, and more mature and elevated than it was 10 years ago.

My advice is to start with the basics—pieces that you feel super confident in. Don’t worry about getting the latest trends until you build a foundation. Add in fun/trendy pieces as accessories, not as your full wardrobe, to avoid having a closet full of clothing you’ll only wear once. And don’t be afraid to repeat outfits!

What are your fashion resolutions for 2025?

Learn how to hem my own pants! I have so many I rarely wear because they’re too long. I just bought a sewing machine (haven’t sewn since I was 11), and I’d love to take the time to learn how to do it myself because well-fitting pants will elevate any outfit.

Also: be more selective with my purchases. I haven’t shopped much the past few years, and I want to keep it that way. I have more clothes than I could ever need, and living in a small NYC apartment, I don’t have room for unnecessary purchases.
