Meet Our Community Members: Mackenzie

Hi! I’m Mackenzie, a current junior at Diamond Bar High School and an Editorial Intern at A Style Set. At school, I’m very involved in both academics and extracurriculars where I serve as a class officer and the vice president of my school’s dance team, as well as having the opportunity to be historian for two years. Dance has been a huge part of my life, not only as a creative outlet but also as a way to connect with others and learn leadership and teamwork. Outside of school, I love soaking in the little joys of life, like golfing with family and friends, discovering new cafés, and spending all my money at the mall. I also enjoy exploring different ways to express myself through creativity, whether it’s design, social media, or fashion.

My personal style:

I’d say my personal style is pretty consistent, mostly because of my busy schedule. Since I always have a two to four hour practice after school, I naturally reach for something that’s comfortable and easy to move in. Most days, that means putting on a pair of Brandy Melville sweatpants and pairing them with a basic white or black tee that is simple, practical, and reliable. Comfort is really important to me, but I also like my outfits to feel intentional, even when they’re casual. On the days when I get the chance to dress up and look more put-together, I love styling a good pair of dark-wash jeans with an elevated top, something that adds just enough contrast without being too over-the-top. I’d describe my style as casual and practical most of the time, but with a classic and polished edge whenever I want to elevate my look. For me, fashion is about balancing ease with effort. It’s about feeling confident in the basics while also having fun with those moments where I get to express a more refined side of myself.

MY STYLE ICONS:

I love a good basic but still put-together look, whether it’s styling a simple boat neck top with jeans or pulling out a flowy linen white dress to watch the sunset in the summer. My style leans toward effortless pieces that feel classic yet fresh, and I find myself reaching for outfits that can transition easily from casual to a little more elevated. A lot of my outfit inspiration comes from Kendall Jenner, Lola Tung, and Nailea Devora. Not only do I look to them for everyday outfits, but I also pull ideas from their hair and makeup styles. The way they keep things minimal yet polished always inspires me to do the same.

FAVORITE PART ABOUT INTERNING AT A STYLE SET:

My favorite part about interning at A Style Set has been the opportunity to use writing and creativity as a way to connect fashion with an audience. As a junior in high school, internships are crucial for finding what you like to do and this one fit the description of what I want to do in life perfectly. I’m so glad I am able to work with a supportive community especially since I am balancing weekly exams and practicing daily for my school’s dance team. It's sometimes a bit of a challenge to manage but I enjoy working on blog-style pieces and content that go beyond just showing an outfit. Whether it’s researching current trends, finding inspiration from fashion icons, or writing about how to style simple basics in new ways, I love being able to turn ideas into polished, engaging posts. Blogging has also given me a space to experiment with tone and voice, helping me learn how to keep content professional while still fun and approachable. Beyond the writing itself, I’ve found a lot of joy in the creative process: brainstorming concepts and figuring out how to make a piece flow so it feels inspiring but also easy to read. This internship has shown me how much thought goes into making fashion content feel effortless, and it’s helped me strengthen my ability to share ideas with clarity and personality. Overall, interning at A Style Set has deepened my appreciation for the creative side of fashion and shown me how impactful writing can be in shaping the way people see style.
