Miss Americana: A Lookbook For Your Next Country Chic Outfit

Just as Miss Americana falls in love with her Mr Heartbreak Prince, we’re here to help you fall in love with your own prince – Western Americana chic. Distinct from the popular English Countryside Chic, Americana fashion is rooted in the nostalgic, rugged style of American folklore and wild west history. Most associated with brands like Ralph Lauren and R.M Williams, Americana fashion has always been a staple in the closets of celebrities like Bella Hadid, Beyonce, even Miss Americana herself, Taylor Swift. They say you can never take the city out of the girl, but perhaps the city girl could try a little… Country Americana chic?

  1. White tee + blue denim + boots

Perhaps the easiest, and most casual Americana outfit to throw together in the morning: blue denim jeans, a white tee and some boots. Almost every Americana-inspired outfit will feature denim. It is a fabric that dates back to their earlier use as labour uniforms, popular for its durability and cost-effectiveness. When I describe this outfit combination, I deliberately leave room for interpretation because, whatever you come up with, every single combination of blue denim and a white tee will automatically translate to Americana style – but of course, a cowgirl hat may make this fact more obvious. Now an integral part of global dress, it really is a classic go-to outfit for many alike – you may not be required to participate in intense labour when wearing this outfit, but you are definitely Americana cowgirl energy regardless.

2. Leather

If an Americana outfit doesn’t feature denim, it will always have leather. Whether this be in the form of leather boots, jackets, or even accessories, leather is always key to making an outfit more Americana. Mimicking the materiality of equipment often used in Western gear – saddlery, quivers, reins and bridles – leather is home to Americana because of its durability and unique patina that comes with its natural wear and tear. Now, a balance between both functionality and fashion, leather is crucial to making an outfit Americana, no matter the shape and form it takes. For our leather inspo, Bella Hadid never fails to meet the brief.

3. Fringes and Tassels

What says Americana more than a strong shoulder of fringe? Nothing. An item less likely to have had a permanent place in your closet, but should probably be soon, are the fringes and tassels of the Americana attire. Originally used as a functional feature to repel rain and protect the integrity of garments from water damage, fringes have now become more of an accessory or decorative statement rather than one of function. If you do not own fringe and tassels, let me tell you: there is nothing more empowering (and fun) than strutting around with a fringe – the way it sways and rolls with your body is a feeling that is hard to describe. I highly recommend getting in on the fun!

4. White dress

A white dress may not be the most practical if you’re in for some labour intensive work – riding and herding, maintenance work – but if you’re looking for something nice to wear in the wild wild west (or if you’re just feeling extra rustic in general), a white dress and boots never hurt anybody. Instead of body-con, tight fitting dresses, opt for one that allows for significant movement; the Americana style welcomes ruffles, lace, and cotton with open arms. There aren’t any rules with the dress you pick but no matter the length and no matter the silhouette, a white dress in a field will always stand out in a crowd; and better yet, it is another easy outfit to put on when you have nothing else to wear.

5. Animal print

If animal prints aren’t already ruling your closet… have you been living under a rock? Not only are animal prints the talk of the 2026 fashion season, but they’re almost the definition of an Americana outfit. Most fashionable for Americana is the cow print – paying homage to rich traditions and culture of rural American life, animal prints provide endless possibilities to adding a pop of colour and pattern to your outfit. Whether they come in the form of a jacket, pants, shorts, skirts, or even accessories, there’s no need to over complicate! If you’re struggling to construct an outfit, just pair them with a white tee or any type of denim and you’ll be good to go!

6. Booty shorts + boots

The micro-short trend may seem to dip and rise in popularity, but in the heart of the Americana, it will always live on. Not only is this look hearty to the Americana, celebrities alike have proven that they’re a staple – a need in every wardrobe, regardless of the season. From the biggest popstars of our generation – Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, Tate McRae and Miss Americana herself – micro shorts and boots will never not look good. The key to making this look chic? Balance the proportions. Take this opportunity to play with the length and looseness of the boot; perhaps introduce fun colours and patterns, and of course for extra points: tassels!

Gingham prints come in almost every colour you can think of, and because it is simply a print pattern, it can be applied to almost every type of clothing: dresses, pants, tops, coveralls, shorts, skirts or even matching sets. Gingham print is easy to spot in a crowd, and even easier to spot in a meadow. Pair your Gingham with a pair of boots and you’ll be Americana ready, take it from our girl Bella

8. Mandatory accessories

If there’s one thing you take away from the Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy style, it is the importance of accessorizing. No matter the circumstance, you would never catch her without her sunnies and/or headband and bandana ready on standby. What’s more with her ability to accessorize, is she knew that the staples are enough – she wore the same pair of sunnies almost daily, and alternated between a few colour rotations for her bandanas. If she was not feeling her bandanas, she opted for a headband instead. She knew what colours worked for her and she stuck to them – they are her staples – with the ability to elevate an outfit just enough to make it interesting.
